Carriage House
CARRIAGE HOUSE
When designing this golf simulator and lounge; the owner tasked Schneider Architectural Works with re-purposing as many materials from the existing carriage house as possible. Previously serving as the estate’s laundry room and mechanic’s service garage, there were many opportunities to do just that. The existing windows and 10 ft tall carriage house doors were restored using modern hardware; affording the opportunity to fine tune for performance, while not altering the aesthetics of the existing units. New wide plank ash floors were milled from an attic subfloor that was removed to create cathedral ceilings in the lounge space. New steel was added to an existing steel structure, creating trusses to support the existing roof and brace the exterior walls. The living finish of the zinc clad bar is paired with a live edge ash bar top, milled from a tree that was felled on the estate years earlier. A Trackman golf simulator, with 18 ft screen allows the owners to work on their golf game, or play any course in the world. Beyond the simulator room lies a bathroom and gym outfitted by PENT Fitness, completing this sports inspired family hangout.
